两liǎng

兩 (liǎng, "two; a liang") evolved from a pictograph showing two horizontal strokes flanked by something like a burden or measure — possibly representing a pair of weights or goods — which is why it became a unit of weight while also meaning "two." The traditional form preserves this balanced composition, while simplified 两 reduces it to a skeletal frame. As a measure word, it still counts both weight and paired objects: 一兩茶 (a liang of tea), 兩口子 (a couple). It appears as a component in 滿 (mǎn, full), where its original visual form has been entirely subsumed.
