会huì

會 (huì, "to meet; can, able") preserves its traditional form while simplified to 会, yet the visual story remains: the character originally depicted a steaming cooking pot (甑) above grain, the ancient ritual of gathering harvests and community. From this concrete image of people coming together to share food, the meaning naturally extended to meetings, assemblies, and finally to the abstract notion of capability — to "can" is, in a sense, to have gathered enough skill within oneself.
