Shuowen
您 (nín). The character combines 你 (the base second-person pronoun) with 心 (heart) placed above it, forming a respectful "you" by literally placing the person in one's heart. This polite pronoun emerged later in Chinese history, adding the heart radical to express heartfelt respect when addressing someone. The structure reflects the cultural value of showing deference—the original 你 becomes elevated when honored with the character for mind and feeling.
