父fù

Modern simplified form (簡體). 父 (fù, "father") is identical in simplified and traditional — a pictograph that originally depicted a hand (又) gripping a rod (丨) to symbolize paternal authority. It serves as the radical in characters such as 爸, 斧 and 釜, and remains the core symbol for paternal relationships in Chinese.
