Shuowen
Dragon. The ancient form depicted a long, serpentine creature with a gaping maw and a curled body, resembling the mythical beast that controlled rain and waters. The oracle bone inscriptions show a sinuous shape with a large head and tail, capturing the dragon's flowing, powerful form. This character became the symbol for the legendary dragon of Chinese mythology, later associated with imperial power and sovereignty.
