Simplified form (簡體). 也 (yě, "also") looks the same in simplified and traditional, its ancient pictograph of a crawling serpent transformed over millennia into a deceptively simple horizontal stroke with a sweeping diagonal. Though now functioning primarily as a grammatical particle, it survives as a phonetic component in characters like 池 (pond), 施 (to implement), and 驰 (to gallop).

Shuowen

也, originally a pictograph of a serpent, appears in oracle bone script as a curved shape resembling a wriggling snake. The serpentine form was later borrowed for its phonetic value to serve as the adverb 'also' and eventually became a grammatical particle. The written form preserves the snake-like curve, reflecting its origin as a depiction of a reptile.
