产chǎn

The traditional form 產 (chǎn, "to produce, to give birth") combines 生, the ancient pictograph of a sprouting plant, with 厂, the cliff-like radical that once represented shelter or production. The simplified 产 retains only the bottom half, a curious reduction for a character fundamentally about bringing forth life. In compounds like 产业 (industry), 产生 (to generate), and 产量 (output), the idea of birth or yield persists — the character still carries its original promise of something coming into existence.
