Shuowen
体. The simplified form of the ancient 體, which originally showed a skeleton (骨) and signified the whole body. In oracle bone inscriptions the glyph depicted a person with a large torso, emphasizing the physical form. The modern character keeps the human radical 亻 to indicate a person’s body.
