Simplified form (簡體). 净 (jìng, "clean, pure") streamlines the traditional 淨, replacing the right component with the simplified 争. The water radical (氵) on the left carries the ancient meaning of cleansing, while the original 爭 depicted two hands pulling—perhaps suggesting the effort required to achieve purity. Today the character appears in 干净 (gānjìng, "clean"), 净化 (jìnghuà, "to purify") and 净土 (jìngtǔ, "pure land").

净 (jìng): The character combines 冫 (the ice radical, suggesting cold clarity) with 争 (originally depicting hands pulling or contending). The ice radical evokes the pure, unblemished quality of cold, clear water, while the 争 component represents the action of purifying or straining out impurities.
