务wù

The simplified 务 (wù, "affair, to strive for") retains the force radical 力 while replacing the ancient spear radical 矛 with 夂, a simplified variant that maintains the visual weight of its traditional counterpart 務. The traditional form makes the original composition clearer — 力 (strength) surrounding 矛 (spear), evoking the image of directing all one's force toward a single purpose. Today 务 appears in 任务 (task), 义务 (duty), and 务必 (must), carrying forward that sense of concentrated effort into modern Chinese.
