医yī

醫 (yī, "medicine/doctor") preserves an ancient scene of wound care: the arrow (矢) piercing the body while hands (the lower component 殹) work to heal it. The simplified 医 strips away this dramatic detail, leaving only the arrow as a stubborn reminder of medicine's violent origins. As a radical, it anchors a small family of characters including 翳 (to shade, to screen), where the medical sense has faded entirely into shadow.
