Modern simplified form (簡體). 和 (hé, "harmony; and") remains unchanged from its traditional counterpart, combining the grain radical 禾 with mouth 口 to evoke the ancient concept of harmonizing food — or voices — together. This character has borne its meaning of peace and accord for over two millennia, from bronze inscriptions to the digital screens of today.

和 (hé). The oracle bone 和 shows a reed instrument (龠) beside a mouth (口), signifying the act of playing music in response or harmony; the union of sound and speech gave the meaning "harmony, peace".
