Simplified form (簡體). 垃 (lā) exists only in the compound 垃圾 (trash, rubbish) — a character born from simplification, pairing the earth radical 土 with the phonetic 立 to suggest a heap of earthly waste. It has no traditional counterpart, standing alone as a purely modern invention.
