少shǎo

Modern simplified form (簡體). 少 (shǎo, “few”) is identical in simplified and traditional, a character that evolved from the ancient pictograph 小 (small) with an added stroke to distinguish “few” from “small”. It now appears in words such as 多少 (how many) and serves as a component in characters like 妙 (wonderful) and 沙 (sand).
