川chuān

Modern simplified form (簡體). 川 (chuān) is identical in simplified and traditional, a straightforward pictograph of a river formed by three vertical strokes that echo the flow of water. As a radical it heads many river‑related characters such as 河流 (river), 湖泊 (lake) and 沙滩 (beach), and it also appears in personal names and place names across China.
