衣yī

衣 (yī, "clothing, garment") is a modern simplified form (簡體) that looks almost identical to its traditional version — a testament to how perfectly the ancient pictograph captured the shape of a robe. The oracle bone script drew a garment complete with sleeves and a collar, hanging elegantly as if on a hook. Three thousand years later, we still wear this same character to mean the clothes on our backs.
