解jiě

Modern simplified form (簡體). 解 (jiě) preserves the ancient composition of 角 (horn) and 刀 (knife), picturing a horn being cut—originally meaning “to untie” or “to dissect.” In simplified Chinese it appears unchanged from its traditional form, yet it serves as a key component in words like 解放 (liberate) and 解释 (explain).
